A Special Salute to Our Nurses — All 1,564 of Them — From Marki Flannery, President & CEO

May 10, 2018

Every year, National Nurses Week starts on May 6 and concludes on May 12, which is Florence Nightingale’s birthday. This year’s theme is “Nurses: Inspire, Innovate, Influence.” That sentiment is especially appropriate for VNSNY in this, our 125th anniversary year: Our nurses have been a consistent source of inspiration, innovation and influence ever since Lillian Wald founded our organization in 1893, and they continue to uphold that proud tradition today.

On behalf of everyone at VNSNY, I want to thank all of our amazing nurses for the fine work you do, day in and day out, providing the very highest level of quality care to our patients and plan members. You  play a key role in virtually every aspect of VNSNY’s care delivery—handling referrals and assessments, coordinating home care services, managing hospice patients’ symptoms with palliative care, providing specialized care for those with wounds, chronic diseases, and mental health conditions, mentoring mothers in our Nurse-Family Partnership program, managing the care of CHOICE members, spearheading the work of our research center, and filling critical administrative positions across VNSNY. And always, you carry out these vital jobs with skill and compassion.

During this special week, I want to express how grateful we are to you, the nurses of VNSNY, for the care you provide to our patients and members, for your essential contributions to our organization, and for your unwavering dedication to the nursing profession. The example you set will help ensure that VNSNY continues to fulfill its mission for the next 125 years and beyond.
